Position Summary Information

General Description/Position Purpose

The Shippensburg University Geography-Earth Science Department announces a new major in Sustainability and invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position starting August 2018. We seek a broadly trained geographer with an emphasis in sustainability to provide program leadership for the new major and serve as the department’s Sustainability Coordinator. Candidates will have opportunities to engage with the Center for Land Use and Sustainability, the Chincoteague Bay Field Station, and the SU Campus-Community farm. In addition to teaching in their area of specialization, candidates will be expected to teach introductory courses in Conservation, Sustainability, and GIS. In addition, faculty members are expected to perform other duties as assigned in compliance with the collective bargaining agreement.

Minimum Qualifications

An ABD considered on a contingent contract basis. As part of a successful on-campus interview process, candidates will be expected to provide a demonstration of teaching effectiveness and evidence of understanding diverse populations. A doctorate is required for tenure.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who have earned at least one degree in Geography, who complement existing Departmental strengths, and who document a commitment to undergraduate teaching. An earned Ph.D. is preferred.
